Series Detail of Woodbine with Sunshine 16

DO NOT PIN Please!

Here is a detail shot of the finish of one of my woodbine pieces.

I love how this piece finished up. I still need to do the edge finishing and will use one of the methods that I found HERE

This is the finish of the piece I was working on with my new Sunshine 16 that was shown earlier on my blog.  I’m so sorry that I don’t feel comfortable showing the entire piece or even a larger view. There are always bad apples who don’t care if they spoil it for  everyone.

More on Copyright

I’ve been gone for awhile. I wasn’t sure if I would continue this blog because there are a lot of changes I need to make. It may survive in some form at Gloria’s urging.

Some of you know that I was pretty well blasted on the Quiltart list over my views on copyright and Pinterest. I’m actually surprised that my email box survived the barn burners that were sent. I’m just amazed that so called professionals can be so blatantly argumentative in a public forum and just because they can….they send private emails with even more nastiness and accusations. Few conversations survive name calling and the kind of private barn burner emails I was receiving.

Not one to take things laying down when this happens, [ which I guess is from being the baby of 5 kids] I wrote to Interweave Press after I was told I was violating copyright by putting images of books and magazines on my blog without written permission. They are there for only one reason: I have work published in them and I was promoting them, with a link back to the magazines.

I received a reply from Interweave’s legal department that included a booklet on copyright for crafters, bloggers and reviewers. Guess what?   I was right all along.

Thoughts for 2013 on Pinterest & Lifting Images from Blogs without Permission

I just finished putting away the Christmas tree and clearing off the mantel. A new love for us is making some terrariums. An assortment of them in different sizes will live on the mantel.  I’m so happy to see these coming back into favor. There isn’t anything quite like green plants to cheer up a bad mood and make a room feel welcoming and inviting.  We purchased some mosses before we went for a walk in the state park where I found a few on the ground and growing on fallen limbs. They greened up nicely overnight in a closed clear jar.

We just returned to Arkansas from Illinois where we were visiting my dad. I can usually catch someone’s open internet while we are there and this visit was no exception. My dad had a question about a couple of things so I was looking up answers for him. From there I took a few minutes to search my name and my blog’s name to see what is new.

I expected to find some stolen images which is something we all experience if we have a blog. I was fortunate that most of them were clickable back to the blog, but then there may be others out there I don’t know how to find.  I was unhappy about finding an unfinished piece on Pinterest. I really wish people would ask before doing this. I have a small copyright notice on the blog but obviously it is ignored. It was even more upsetting to know that other quilt artists were doing this.  Maybe I’m different, but I don’t find it flattering when you don’t ask permission.

There are some exhibits and shows that don’t allow your work to be shown any place but your OWN blog. It is disqualified if it is all over the net. So, this unfinished piece that I had planned on entering into some shows won’t be able to be entered because someone saw fit to steal my image without asking permission.

I don’t know how this is going to affect what I post here. For sure there won’t be anything but partial shots of anything. The only pieces that will have full images will be ones that either are for sale or have already been sold. At least until I know how to enter code that stops copying, that will be the rule I have to follow.

Sunshine 16 and Art Quilt from UFO & Play Date

 This silk abstract started life as a Fast Friday Fabric challenge and has been sitting for a few years. It was monochromatic and I feel a need for color most of the time. The lutradur-style fabric Liz and I painted seemed like a good addition to take this piece further. I added it at the bottom and top and moved on to adding color on the body of the silk piece to make it cohesive.  {No, this isn’t the entire quilt and after it is quilted I will decide what direction it needs to go to next.}

On to quilting with my new Sunshine 16. This seemed a good practice since it is so organic I’m not going to worry about a skipped stitch or two. In the bottom photo you can see my Quackers that came with the machine. They have foam [think pool noodle] on the bottoms to grip the quilt. They work like a charm!  I’m linking up with Nina Marie’s Off The Wall Friday.

Play Date with Liz

My friend Liz came down last week for a play date. It was my turn to go up to her house in Missouri but she just put her home on the market and things like dye and paint don’t bode well if they want to do a showing.

I recently purchased a gel foam mattress pad and wrapped around in was this lutradur looking stuff that was larger than a queen size flat sheet. I laundered it because I didn’t want any chemicals from the mattress pad to affect how I used it. No way it was going to be thrown away.

We put drop cloths down, cut some large pieces off, got out the paints and away we went.  I love the way some of the texture comes through the paint.

I have already found a use for some of it. I’ve been working on an abstract piece for entry into Sacred Threads. I won’t show more just yet, but I’m really thankful I saved this stuff.
