While drinking our coffee on the patio this morning there was a song of birds chirping accompanied by buzzing of bees. The pokeberry and basil in bloom were the concert hall. I love the play of color with the lime green and white of the basil juxtaposed to the dark green and red stems of the pokeberry. Soon there will be enough berries for dyeing.

There are so many variables with natural dyeing. Pokeberry is magenta and overdyed with indigo makes deep purple. It is fugitive by itself and not always light fast. One dyer says acedic acid rather than vinegar will be lightfast. We will see!
