Indigo and eucalyptus this week!

Happening this week in the dye room. Gorgeous seeded eucalyptus for botanical printing compliments of Liz at Mountain Home Floral on the square. And an indigo vat is ready to go with all it’s coppery sheen goodness. Stop into the studio if you want to see natural dye textiles in progress.

Seeded eucalyptus Indigo dye vat

Thank you all you beautiful people.

The Art Odyssey is over for another year. We used this time to kick off the gallery with advertising and To tell the area we are here. It was truly amazing! Many of you left us speechless with praise for the gallery and our art. All of our hard work was so very worth it.

A quick picture to show off these great lampshades. They are burlap barrel drum shades embellished wih nature printed muslin and a large quilted leaf. I would love to keep these for myself!

In search of red….

Along the wooded tree line is an ancient pear tree. I have read that the bark will dye reds and the leaves will dye yellow greens. We gathered windfall bark and snipped sucker leaves from the trunk for the dye pot. Our hopes are to bundle the leaves on silk and process in the (hopefully) red dye from the bark. We envision a glorious piece of multi-colored silk. Fingers crossed!

There is also an ancient peach tree so it will be next for the dye pot!

It’s Twins!

Well, a twin sweater set at least. Like having babies, it is sometimes a long wait and heart stopping anticipation from the time a garment is bundled with leaves, cooked and left to cool out of the dye pot before unbundling. This silk and rayon twin set was worth every second of the wait. I love the printing against the embroidered flowers on the sweaters.
