I saw a terrific door at an RV park on a trip to Alabama. It had red block walls [ Starbucks coffee wrapper ] and weathered wood [torn cardboard] around it. It was the inspiration for my cards, that also incorporates some of the bright painted colors from the rental cottages.

Art Challenge Day 3
You probably wonder why I’m showing paintings rather than art quilts, but I wanted you to see my progression into fiber. Some of those are destined for printing on fabric for other art quilt projects. Now here are some of my art earlier quilts, all dye painted on fabric. I nominate Jeannie Sredl to show here work next.
A4 Art Quilt challenge December 2014 Architecture
The December theme was Architecture. /definitions…
- the art or practice of designing and constructing buildings.
- the style in which a building is designed or constructed, especially with regard to a specific period, place, or culture.
- the complex or carefully designed structure of something.
That was a difficult them for me because my work is more organic. I chose door number three: the complex designed structure of something…an art quilt.

This was constructed by first strip piecing hand painted and hand dyed scraps for the background. Then I added scraps from my Seashore themed artist trading cards from this month. Those were positioned on the background and wonky machine stitching holds it all together. I have a Styrofoam block I made and I printed this all over in black for depth. A few wonky hand stitches to go with my commitment to adding slow stitching to my work and I called it done.
Its a Giveaway! SAQA Urban Textures
I’m excited that the fabric is hitting stores. To celebrate and toot my own horn a bit, I’m having a giveaway. There will be 2 lucky winners! I just know that when you see this fabric you will want more, more, more! If you do, it is available at eQuilter . I received a fat quarter packet of all the colors and designs and it is luscious.
There was one little glitch along the way when my name was misspelled on the selvedge. It was corrected on subsequent runs of the print, so if you buy some with “designed by Jane Paine Dawes”, that’s my mom and she had nothing to do with the design of the fabric, she just designed ME! Andover and Daryl, Luana and the whole team were great to work with.
To refresh your memory, here is the quilt I designed with the fabric so you can see the 3 colors. And a picture of some wonderful market bags Andover gifted me from Quilt Market. Each winner will receive one of these great bags and a fat quarter of each of the colors of my design from the collection. All you have to do is post a comment and tell me what your next quilt project is going to be. Winners will be selected at random on 12/10/2014. By the way, for a free pdf download of my quilt, Out of the Concrete, go here!

Full Urban Textures Quilt @ Market
I wasn’t sure about showing the full view of the quilt I made for market, but saw a couple on FB so assume it is OK to post this now.
I wanted a simple design that would showcase my fabric design and be beginning quilter friendly. Most of the colors come from the diverse value and color shifts of each colorway. There is a solid black, cobalt and red added to the mix. I love this fabric and hope it sells well at market.
