I struggled with the birth of this Steam punk girl. She changed a few times and lived on my work table for a few weeks. I was to the point of shit canning her. Really. But boy I hate to be bested by a pile of throw away junk. I sat down one final time to try to make her behave. Ta-Da! I give you just a girl and her parrot.
Lacking a specific genre, I am calling my kids steampunks.
What does that term really mean? One meaning online : a style of design and fashion that combines historical elements with anachronistic technological features inspired by science fiction. So then I need to define anachronistic: belonging or appropriate to an earlier period, especially so as to seem conspicuouslyold-fashioned.”she is rebelling against the anachronistic morality of her parents”
Well, the heads definitely look old fashioned and the designs combine elements inspired by science fiction. So Steampunks it is!
Dragonfly is being born . She gets her name from the way dragonflies seem to be drawn to her. There are a couple of problems to overcome before she gets her color and finishes. She will have wheels and will roll along if I can work out how to attach them.
Meet Chastity. My art assemblages, curiosities, mixed media pieces always tell a story. Sometimes they are obvious stories. This is a woman’s story. Each part of the work is integral to the narrative. Like many women today, she is in pieces stuffed into a box not of her making, being held together with tightly coiled springs. Her body is shielded with a tin plate and her yoni must have a key to enter. She safely keeps her key in a locket around her neck. At the bottom is the door to her desires, chained against unwanted advances. You may read more or less into this artwork. I would love to hear any of your comments.
